MostPrep's Winter/Spring 2024 SAT/ACT Classes

FLHS is pleased to announce that MostPrep will be running both SAT courses at FLHS in preparation for the two most popular SAT dates later in the school year and, for the first time at FLHS, an ACT course leading up to the school-based ACT on April 9. You may use this LINK to sign up for a class. There is a limit of 25 students per session, so registrations will be honored on a first-come, first-served basis. Please contact MostPrep by e-mail (mostprep@gmail.com) or phone (702-896-1307 -- this is a landline, so please don't send a text!) if you have any questions. Here is a list of course offerings; no student may register for more than 1 course, and these courses are only open to current juniors. FLHS will bill students' accounts for these courses after they begin.

SAT Winter Course, January 31 - March 8: This 6-week course ($700) aims to fully cover the most important content for the new digital SAT, all of which carries over to the ACT. Two proctored practice tests are included. This course will meet on Wednesday nights (7 - 9:30pm) and Friday afternoons (4 - 5:30pm), except for Ash Wednesday; the course will meet on Monday night that week instead. Practice tests will run from 8am - 10:30am on February 24 and March 2, which are the final two Saturdays before the March SAT. MostPrep recommends that students who have multiple AP classes take the March SAT so they can devote the time they need to studying for the AP tests, which they only get one chance to take!

ACT course, February 6 - April 4: This 8-week course ($800) aims to fully cover the most important content for the ACT, including the harder math and the science section, which are both beyond the scope of the SAT. Two proctored practice tests are included. This course will meet on Tuesday and Thursday evenings (7-9pm); the course will not meet over spring break. Practice tests will run from 8am - 11:30am on March 2 and March 23.

SAT Spring Course, March 27 - May 3: This 6-week course ($700) aims to fully cover the most important content for the new digital SAT, all of which carries over to the ACT. Two proctored practice tests are included. This course will meet on Wednesday nights (7 - 9:30pm) and Friday afternoons (4 - 5:30pm), except for Good Friday; the course will meet on Thursday afternoon that week instead. This course will not be meeting over spring break. Practice tests will run from 8am - 10:30am on April 20 and April 27, which are the final two Saturdays before the May SAT.

DEVOTIONS
Today’s Reading: 1 Thessalonians 5.16-24
Daily Lectionary: Isaiah 40:1-17Revelations 7:1-17
Now may the God of peace himself sanctify you completely, and may your whole spirit and soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. (1 Thessalonians 5:23)
In the Name + of Jesus. Amen. That’s right, Paul is talking about Advent, the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. Although he’s referring to the second Advent the whole church prayerfully waits for. Yes that’s right, just as God’s people of old sought the first Advent of God’s Messiah, His anointed one, who God has long promised would come and redeem His people. This was not just a redemption, and return from an earthly exile. Although God would certainly deliver Israel home in time. This was a redemption with eternal consequences.
But we know that story. The Advent of the Messiah who was born in Bethlehem, not as a king in a palace, but the Messiah, the Son of God, the one who came to redeem you. To end your exile of wandering in slavery to sin, and death, and to know God’s love for you in the wounds of His crucified Messiah, Jesus. Only these wounds are not found in the arms of a dead man, but the wounds of your crucified, dead, and risen Savior. Who came for you, died for you, and conquered death for you.
In Jesus, the God of peace sanctifies you completely. It’s all His gift, given to you through faith by the simple means of the water of your Baptism, and nourishing you weak after weak with His life giving body and blood that He gives you to eat and to drink. He does this without any merit or worthiness in you, purely out of His fatherly divine mercy, that just as His people of old wait for Him, you too may wait for the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, assured of the promises of the God of Israel, the God of the church, and the God who will come and bring you out of the great tribulation, and into the life to come. In the Name + of Jesus. Amen.
“Comfort, Comfort ye My people, Speak ye peace,” thus saith our God; “Comfort those who sit in darkness, Mourning ‘neath their sorrows’ load. Speak ye to Jerusalem Of the peace that waits for them; Tell her that her sins I cover And her warfare now is over.” (LSB 347:1)
